چکیده

©2017 Turkish League Against Rheumatism. All rights reserved. A 23-year-old female patient presented with a one-week history of itchy skin lesions distributed on the upper chest, extensor sides of the arms, and the trunk. Two weeks earlier, the patient had been prescribed lansoprazole 40 mg/day due to the symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux. Physical examination revealed multiple erythematous, annular plaques of varying sizes distributed on the upper chest, arms and trunk (Figure 1). In laboratory analysis of the blood, antinuclear antibodies were detected at a titer of 1/160 with a diffuse pattern. Anti-doublestranded deoxyribonucleic acid was negative and anti-Ro/Sjögren's syndrome A (SSA), anti-La/ Sjögren's syndrome B (SSB) antibodies, and antihistone antibodies were positive. Histopathologic examination of the skin biopsy revealed atrophic epidermis and vacuolar degeneration of the basal layer (Figures 2a, b). Immunofluorescence was weakly positive for C3 at the basement membrane. Depending on the clinical history, autoantibody profile, and the histopathologic findings, the patient was diagnosed as having lansoprazole-induced subacute cutaneous lupus erythematosus (SCLE). The lansoprazole therapy was discontinued and the patient was given hydroxychloroquine sulfate 200 mg/day. At the follow-up, all lesions disappeared after one month. Hydroxychloroquine sulfate therapy was stopped after three months and it was observed that no lesions occurred during one-year follow-up. A written informed consent was obtained from the patient.

Proton pump inhibitor-induced subacute cutaneous lupus erythematosus

BACKGROUND Drug-induced subacute cutaneous lupus erythematosus (SCLE) has been known in the literature since 1985 and is increasingly recognized. OBJECTIVES To identify and describe patients with proton pump inhibitor (PPI)-induced SCLE. METHODS A retrospective medical chart review of patients diagnosed with lupus erythematosus at the Department of Dermatology and Allergy Centre was carried...

Subacute cutaneous lupus erythematosus induced or exacerbated by terbinafine: a report of 5 cases.

BACKGROUND Subacute cutaneous lupus erythematosus is a nonscarring, non-atrophy-producing photosensitive cutaneous disorder. Half of the patients have 4 or more of the criteria for classification as systemic lupus erythematosus. In some patients, drugs induce or exacerbate the cutaneous disease. OBSERVATION We describe 5 patients who had either an exacerbation or a new onset of subacute cutan...

Subacute cutaneous lupus erythematosus due to proton pump inhibitor intake: case report and literature review

Patients with lupus erythematosus (LE) frequently require systemic corticosteroid therapy and some of them also take non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs for arthritis or aspirin for thrombosis prevention. However, these drugs, especially if taken concomitantly, may significantly increase the risk of peptic ulcer, and proton-pump inhibitors (PPIs) are currently considered as first line prophyl...

Subacute cutaneous lupus erythematosus induced by chemotherapy: gemcitabine as a causative agent.

IMPORTANCE Several chemotherapeutic agents have been reported to induce subacute cutaneous lupus erythematosus (SCLE). To our knowledge, this is the first report to date of SCLE induced by monotherapeutic gemcitabine hydrochloride and includes a comprehensive review of all published cases of chemotherapeutic drug-induced SCLE. OBSERVATIONS We describe a patient who developed a SCLE-like erupt...
